Laser Ablation of Pilonidal Sinus (LPSA / EPSiT)
A pilonidal sinus is a small tunnel or cavity in the skin at the top of the buttocks crease (sacrococcygeal area) that often contains hair debris, dirt, and infection. The Minimally Invasive Laser Procedure
Under local or short general anesthesia, a small opening is used to access the sinus. Specialized micro-instruments (or a small endoscope in EPSiT) are used to clear out all hair debris and infected tissue from the cavity. Once clean, a radial laser fiber is inserted into the sinus tract. The laser energy burns and ablates the inner lining of the tract, causing it to shrink, collapse, and close permanently.
